Our studio

Mike Marsh Mastering

Mike Marsh Mastering has set up a precision audio mastering facility. The custom-built mastering studio has been assembled to the highest possible standard using simple analogue and digital signal paths with inter-connects made using Audioquest pure silver cables.

We carry out mastering worldwide for record companies, production companies, management agencies and individual artists and
everyone is treated in the same way; with the utmost of care, respect and attention.

With over 30 years of experience in all aspects of mastering audio, we produce masters for Vinyl / CD / DVD / HD Audio and Digital Downloads.

Our outboard equipment includes EAR Valve EQ and EAR compressor / limiters, and monitoring is carried out using time-aligned, room cancelling Graham Holliman Masterclass Monitoring. Amplification is valve-driven using EAR 549 valve amplifiers for the purest, cleanest sound.

We use SADiE 6 as our digital audio workstation and a modified Neumann VMS70 disc-cutting lathe with modified SAL74B cutting amplifiers for producing lacquer record masters.

All pre-master formats are supported including using modified Studer A80 half-inch and quarter-inch analogue tape machines capable of 30ips, 15ips and 7.5ips, 24-bit and 16-bit DAT machines, Sony PCM 1630 Umatic, CDR and Digital Data Files ranging from 44.1 kHz to 96 kHz. Logic Pro-X is our playback digital audio workstation (DAW).

Data files can be sent to us, and, mastered material returned to you safely via the Internet using our secure FTP server or via online file transfer platforms.

We supply mastered lacquer discs for LP / 12” / 10” and 7” vinyl releases which can be shipped direct from the studio to the manufacturer of your choice. Red Book CDRs or, more commonly, DDPi files are supplied for compact disc manufacture.

Individual mastered files for digital requirements or streaming upload are usually supplied as 44.1 kHz/24-bit or 44.1 kHz/16-bit .wav files but higher-resolution files may be requested, as long as we’re made aware of this before a session is due to take place!

For clients who used to work with Mike Marsh at The Exchange Mastering Studios and who require access to mastered material from previous sessions, an archive of the majority of mastering sessions, dating back to 2004 is available.

In all cases, many of these historical original mastered files are available at 44.1 kHz/16-bit resolution with a high number of archived files stored at 44.1 kHz/24-bit resolution.

Should you require access to historical files please don’t hesitate to contact us so that we can inform you of their availability.

We look forward to hearing from you!
